Counter Terrorism

Basic Terrorism Awareness

This course is targeted at all members of an organisation that might be exposed to a risk of terrorist activity and who do not already possess any understanding of terrorism or basic procedures to follow in the event of a terrorist incident.

It is suitable as an entry point into:

1. Suspicious Packages (Mail Room) – Level 1 - 2
2. Terrorism Awareness for CCTV Operators – Level 1
3. Advanced Terrorism Awareness for Managers – Level 3 - 4
4. Hostile Reconnaissance Recognition – Terrorism Related – Level 2
5. Crisis Management & Leadership Training – Level 2, 3, 4,
6. Strategic Terrorism Awareness – Level 4

The course covers such matters as understanding the terrorist; identifying terrorist activity; methods of attack; personal protection; identifying suspicious items; local procedures.

Learning Outcomes (LO)

At the conclusion of the course the learner will be able to:

1. Understand the philosophy of a terrorist
2. Recognise the signs of the preparation for a terrorist attack
3. Apply the correct methods to keep safe during and after a terrorist attack
4. Identify a possible explosive device
5. Understand and apply local company procedures for dealing with a threat or incident



Suspicious Packages (Mail Room)

This course is targeted at all members of an organisation that might be exposed to risks when opening or handling delivered mail.

This course can only be delivered in a training room environment due to the use of props during the session.

Learning Outcomes (LO)

In order to achieve this unit the learner will:

1. Learn who sends dangerous packages and why 
2. Identify how an individual or organisation may become a target
3. Learn methods to protect the handler of suspicious packages
4. Recognise suspicious packages including component parts
5. Understand the procedures to adopt when a suspicious package is discovered
6. Undertake a practical test that ensures that lessons have been learnt
